Toy Poodles

Tiny Dogs with Big Personalities

Toy Poodles may be small, but they are packed with personality, intelligence, and affection. Known for their beautiful coats, incredible trainability, and devotion to their families, Toy Poodles make wonderful companions for individuals and families looking for a small dog with a big heart.

At K & M Poodles and Doodles, we thoughtfully raise Toy Poodle puppies with an emphasis on health, temperament, structure, and loving companionship. Our goal is to produce happy, confident puppies who are prepared to become cherished members of their new families.

About the Toy Poodle

The Toy Poodle is the smallest variety of the Poodle. According to the AKC breed standard, Toy Poodles are 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders when fully grown.

Despite their small size, Toy Poodles are athletic, energetic, and exceptionally intelligent. They often enjoy learning new tricks, playing games, going on adventures, and simply spending time with their people.

Toy Poodles are well known for being:

  • Highly intelligent and trainable

  • Affectionate and people-oriented

  • Playful and entertaining

  • Small and adaptable

  • Athletic despite their size

  • Low-shedding

  • Eager to learn

  • Loyal to their families

Their combination of intelligence, size, and personality makes them an excellent companion for many different lifestyles.

Toy Poodle Size

Toy Poodles are defined by height rather than weight, with the AKC standard placing them at 10 inches or under at the shoulder.

Weight can vary depending on genetics, build, and individual development. Because puppies can develop differently, estimated adult weights are just that—estimates rather than guarantees.

When helping families choose a puppy, we are happy to discuss the parents' size, previous puppies from our lines when available, and the individual puppy's development.

Toy Poodle Temperament

One of our favorite things about Toy Poodles is their personality.

These little dogs tend to form strong bonds with their people and thrive when they are included in everyday family life. They are intelligent, curious, affectionate, and often surprisingly confident for such a small dog.

Because Poodles are so intelligent, early socialization and positive training are especially valuable. We believe a puppy's early experiences can help build the foundation for a confident, well-adjusted companion.

Every puppy is an individual, and temperament can vary even among puppies from the same litter. We carefully observe our puppies as they grow so we can help families find a puppy that may be a good fit for their lifestyle.

Are Toy Poodles Hypoallergenic?

Toy Poodles are frequently described as hypoallergenic dogs because they have a low-shedding coat. However, no dog can be guaranteed to be completely hypoallergenic.

People can react to proteins found in a dog's dander, saliva, and other sources—not simply their hair. For some families with allergies, a Poodle's low-shedding coat may be easier to live with than a heavily shedding breed.

Toy Poodle Grooming

That gorgeous Poodle coat does require regular maintenance.

Toy Poodles should be brushed routinely to help prevent tangles and matting. Most families also choose professional grooming on a regular schedule to keep their Poodle's coat healthy and manageable.

Routine care should also include nail trimming, ear care, and dental care.

The fun part? Poodles can wear an incredible variety of grooming styles, from fluffy teddy-bear trims to traditional Poodle clips.

Intelligent & Highly Trainable

Poodles consistently stand out for their intelligence and willingness to learn.

Toy Poodles can excel at basic obedience, tricks, scent games, and other activities that provide both physical and mental stimulation. Their small size doesn't mean they want to spend their entire lives sitting on the couch!

Short, positive training sessions can be a wonderful way to build confidence while strengthening the relationship between a Toy Poodle and their family.

Our Approach to Health

Health is an important part of every breeding decision we make.

At K & M Poodles and Doodles, we utilize DNA genetic testing and breed-appropriate OFA health testing as part of our breeding program. We also consider pedigree information, structure, temperament, previous generations, and what we have learned from our lines over time.

Health testing gives breeders valuable information that can help us make more educated breeding decisions and reduce certain known risks. However, biology is complex, and no breeder or health test can guarantee that a puppy will never develop a health condition.

Our goal is simple: use the information and tools available to us to make thoughtful breeding decisions while continuing to learn with every generation.

Raising Our Toy Poodle Puppies

We believe raising a great companion starts long before a puppy goes home.

Our Toy Poodle puppies are raised with individualized care, affection, socialization, and age-appropriate experiences. We want our puppies to grow into curious, confident little dogs who are ready to begin their next chapter with their new families.

We don't simply want to produce beautiful puppies. We want to raise puppies that families will love sharing their lives with.
